The Journey Begins

Thanks for joining me!

My name is Chelsey, I have been a member of the Logan community for over 8 years. I’m happily married, and mum to a beautiful almost 2.5 year old, and an 8 year old fur baby. Before having my own little person, for over 10 years I worked in various roles supporting children, young people and families. Whilst learning to be a mum, I have also been completing a Master of Social Work, and due to finish by early November, almost there, yay!!

As a new mum, I created a Facebook support network for Logan mums aged over 30 (find us on Facebook – Logan Mums 30+) two years later, this group has almost 250 members. I couldn’t have achieved this alone… I’m more of a team player than a lone    ranger, so here’s a big public THANK YOU to my amazing Admin team, Jade, Jackie, and Mel, and all of our members many of whom have become wonderful friends.

Having also participated in a local play group, first 5 activities through my local library, attended the child health clinic for groups and developmental checks, and being an active member of other parent networks, I have learned that there are so many opportunities to connect with parents in Logan. However, I have observed that many mothers experience significant barriers in accessing existing social supports… and have created surveys to confirm that (more on the survey data later).

Through my studies, I have developed a passion for supporting parents, especially mums. I have had multiple opportunities to research factors impacting on maternal wellbeing, and strategies to support families in transition. I am a trained parent mentor, parent consumer representative, and have completed parent training in circle of security and PPP.  I am also trained in solution focused brief therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy.

What’s with the name?

So… before I became a mum, I always said I was a work in progress… always growing, learning and building my skills. When my friends talked me into joining the worlds of Instagram and Twitter, chelsinprogress made a lot of sense. Don’t worry about sending me a follow request, I never quite got the hang of it, the content is a bit boring. As a mum, I still see myself as a work in progress, and believe that I am always learning and growing each day… because little people don’t come with instruction manuals, it makes sense, we are all Parents~in~Progress.
